Make Questions Mandatory

You have the option of making the answers to all questions mandatory in your template, i.e. the Word export will only be possible after the questions have been answered.

To do this, open your template in edit mode. Click on OPTIONS in the top right-hand corner and finally select the option QUESTIONS ARE MANDATORY.

Once this option is enabled, the document cannot be exported until all questions in the template have been answered.

Not all questions are mandatory

Once the option is activated, it applies to all questions. However, if there are questions that either cannot yet be answered or are not absolutely necessary, we recommend including a “select none” option (e.g., “no answer,” “not applicable,” or simply a “-”).

This may sound obvious, but it can be very relevant. If a question is voluntary and left unanswered, it remains unclear why,

  • Was the question overlooked?
  • Was it deliberately left unanswered?
  • Was it not relevant?

This lack of clarity can cause problems later on, especially if texts, reports, or decisions are automatically generated based on the answers.

The solution is therefore:

  • Make all questions mandatory.
  • Offer a conscious option for “no answer” for each question.

=> This way, it is always clear whether something was intentionally left blank.
=> This saves misunderstandings and enables clean, traceable logic when generating documents.

Tip

We would also like to point out that the answers to a multiple-choice question can be provided with placeholders. This way, you can increase the automation potential of your template. Please read more about this here
